Skin Lesions

Skin Lesions

Some skin lesions such a moles need to be removed for diagnostic reasons, some because they are cosmetically or functionally troublesome.

Generally children will require a general anaesthetic to have skin lesions removed. However some older children are able to tolerate the procedure under a local anaesthetic. Either way the procedure is always carried out as a day case. When a child is under a general anaesthetic, a local anaesthetic ‘numbing” medication is injected into the area of treatment to minimise post-operative discomfort.

After surgery, children will only require simple over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol (calpol). These procedures are carried out in comfortable and child-friendly settings with specialised paediatric nursing staff.
